As one of the four great ancient civilizations in the world， the Chinese civilization saw the technique of building primitive walls as early as 5，000 years ago. The stone walls at the Shimao Site in Shaanxi Province and the rammed earth walls at the Liangzhu Site in Zhejiang Province both replicate our ancestors’ wisdom through which they transfigured nature as per the local conditions. The architectural wisdom was passed down and laid a technical foundation for the large-scale construction of the Great Wall by later generations.
